Located 3.5 miles from the cabin, French Lick/West Baden has amenities such as gas and groceries, as well as restaurants, gift shops, spas and antique stores. This town is known as Indiana’s playground for many reasons:

French Lick Resort & Casino

The casino is a state of the art gaming facility and the Resort includes the West Baden Springs Hotel; also check out information on the nearby golf courses, Donald Ross Golf Course and the Pete Dye Course, which was the site of the 2010 PGA Professional National Championship.

Big Splash Adventure-Indoor Park

With 40,000 sq. ft. water park with a retractable roof, day passes are available.

French Lick Scenic Railway

Check out train departures. The Railway collaborates with the French Lick Resort in the winter to create the Polar Express event for families to enjoy.

One of the 8 great wineries included in Indiana Uplands Wine Trail, the French Lick Winery and Vintage Cafe offers wine tasting, bulk wine purchase, and a small restaurant.

Patoka Lake

Located 15 miles from the cabin, the second largest reservoir in the State of Indiana, Patoka Lake is an 8,800 acre lake great for boating, fishing, hiking, and swimming.

Patoka Lake Winery features a Tasting Room that is open daily to the public. It also offers a large gift shop, wine sales, and nice places to sit and sip.

Paoli Peaks Ski Resort

13 miles from the cabin, visit Paoli Peaks for skiing and snowboarding.

Orangeville Rise

At Orangeville Rise, a large spring—the second-largest in Indiana—is a major tributary of the Lost River. Here the Lost River comes to the surface at the base of a low cliff, forming sizable streams.

Hemlock Cliffs

Hemlock Cliffs is a box canyon of special beauty in southern Indiana. A one-mile hiking trail leads you down into the canyon under a lush canopy of large trees and past high seasonal waterfalls.

Wilstem Wildlife Park

Private animal encounters with sloths, grizzly bears, elephants, and giraffes, zipline tours and ATV tours, and horseback riding

Bond’s Chapel

Bond’s Chapel is a smal country church located in the hoosier national forest. Bond’s Chapel Cemetery has a mysterious grave with a linked chain that grows longer every year.

Marengo Cave

US National Natural Landmark- discovered in 1883, Marengo Cave houses one 40 minutes and one 60 minute walking tour.

Bluespring Caverns

Located in Bedford, Indiana, Bluespring Caverns offers a one hour boat tour through the water-filled cave filled with albino cave wildlife.

Hoosier National Forest

The Hoosier National Forest is a property managed by the United States Forest Service in the hills of southern Indiana. Composed of four separate sections, it has a total area of 202,814 acres. 

Wesley Chapel Gulf

Wesley Chapel Gulf was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1972 due to its impressive geologic features. The gulf provides a rare glimpse of the Lost River on its subterranean path. 

Spring Mill State Park

Spring Mill State Park is a 1,358-acre state park in the state of Indiana. It contains a settler’s village, the Gus Grissom Memorial, a nature’s center, and campgrounds.

Shirley Creek

Shirley Creek Trail is a 10.3 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near West Baden Springs, Indiana that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Springs Valley Trail and Boat Launch

Surrounded by scenic hardwood forests, the 141-acre Springs Valley Lake, once known as Tucker Lake, is the centerpiece for this recreation site.  The boat launch area has trailer parking and vault toilets.

Cave River Valley

Cave River Valley Trail is a 3.3 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Campbellsburg, Indiana that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from March until October.

Martin State Forest

Martin State Forest was established in 1932 with the purchase of 1,205 acres. A firetower and a small picnic area were soon built. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps built several shelterhouses. Three fishing ponds were constructed in 1957. Each pond measured 3 to 4 acres. In the mid-1960s a 26-site, primitive campground was developed.

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari (known as Santa Claus Land prior to 1984) is a combination theme park and water park located near Interstate 64 and U.S. 231 in Santa Claus.

Gasthof Amish Village

Gasthof Amish Village’s 92 acres include a hotel, a restaurant, antiques and unique shops, and access to a 25 acre lake. Our large buffet is famous for its authentic Amish recipes prepared and served in a rustic building, constructed by Amish carpenters in traditional mortise-tenon joints and pegs style, using Indiana oak and poplar timber.
